Th Wife I seek

Ok Everyone, I have been putting this off now because life has been chaotic over the past few days.  But anyway it is now time to introduce that topic that has so many friends interested in finding the one.  I hope I have a good answer for you, it lies in my favorite book.  Proverbs 31:10-31;  I am literally gonna type the whole passage out and break it down, verse by verse.

Proverbs 31 10: The Wife of Noble Character;
Verse 10:  A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth more than rubies.
Interpretted as: She does exsist guys, but again is exceedingly hard to find (I would say impossible, by man, it claims later to ask God of her).  Her worth far more than any jewel found on earth.

Verse 11:  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
Interpretted as:  You won't ever need to worry about this woman guys.  She can be all by herself without your ever scrutinizingly watchful eye, as you already know she'll make the right decision.  In other words, she is completely loyal and faithful to you, and only you.  You won't even think she might be with someone else, or doing something she shouldn't be.

Verse 12:  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of his life.
Interpretted as:  Self explanatory, but should be giving you goose bumps.  You can't really register calamity and disaster in this relationship, further making you an inseperable pair... Not saying you won't be without your struggles, but that she will still be there for you.  Like it is seen in Genesis 2:24.

Those Verses sum up the marriage side of her, Verse 13-24 describe how she acts and her certain behaviors

Verse 13: She selects wool and flask, and works with eager hands.
Interpretted as:  Partly cultural, woman that were considered excellent at the time could make their own clothes (read ahead in 19 if you want), but the side that is still good for us is that she won't be lazy, in fact, she'll be openly and willingly ready to work hard.  And not because of us either, it is a pillar of her character.

Verse 14:  She is like the merchant ships, bringing food from afar.
Interrpretted as:  She only get's what's best for her and her family, a real quality gal.

Verse 15: She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.
Interpretted as:  A bit cultural with the whole servant girls thing.  But the rest of the verse; makes this one of my favorite verses.  She strives to please her family with the best food (Verse 14) and diligently works at it.  The side about the servant girls is about as cool.  She works to please the needs of others not in her family as well.  Again the serving nature and willingness to be happy in doing it, make this verse probably my favorite.

Verse 16:  She considers a field and buys it; our of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
Interpretted as:  It is TOTALLY BIBLICAL for a wife to have a job!  Guys don't have to push for a stay at home wife when they don't have that calling to do it.  The wife in this section is resourceful and careful in her spendings.... (Culture shock maybe?)  And the spendings she has, she totally earned, read the next verse.

Verse 17:  She sets about her work vigorously, her arms are strong for the task.
Interpretted as:  Ok this is a hard one to interprett right, but it basicially is saying that this is not a simple stay at home type of mom.  She works vigorously, but could be translated as purposefully.  The next part of this could bear wait on her spiritual strength moreso than her actual physical strength.

Verse 18:  She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
Interpretted as: Almost all cultural actually, the woman of noble character by was able to trade that which she would make for her family for profit.  The lamp part however is actually a progression in the day, it refers to her schedule throughout the day (Vineyard planted during the day verse 16, till weaving late at night in 19, until rising early for the fam in 15.)  In other words, the wife is a scheduled individual, from keeping the house to running her business.  Sun up to sun down, and it is all done for her family.  The family is really the priority of this woman's life (Titus 2:5)

Verse 19:  (Completely cultural)
Just the tools for making the clothing in 13

In Verses 20-24 are her activities, that drive from caring for her family and branches in extending for caring for the poor/needy (verse 20) her household (verse 21)  her own care (verse 22) her husband (verse 23) and finally the merchant's she traded with.

Verse 20:  She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
Interrpretted as: awesomely.  Completely self explanatory, she cares for more than herself but for the suffering around her, and embraces her.  Her heart is pure, but of course, not by her own deeds, but by that of God's divine surgical heart transplant.

Ok I will continue working on this later tonight, I hope you like what you have so far, PLEASE LEAVE ME A COMMENT!

  1. There's the checklist from God Himself, now, how do you give the girls the exam and score the results? Or do you think that the Holy Spirit will direct you? Bottom line--never get married if you aren't sure you want to!

  4. i've only read 10-13, and its great jax! but i do have another interpretation for you on v 10. she brings him good ALL the days of her life. the way you interpreted it is soo right, but i also think it means even before he knows her. as Christian women, we need to remember that God has ONE man chosen just for us, all those other guys don't matter. when we're in those relationships that bring us harm and cause us to falter, we do in fact cause harm to our husband. we've given a way part of us that ONLY belongs to him. just something else to think about :) i'll be back!
